But you to the ship, to the ship shall go quickly, willing, or unwilling,† forced with much violence; go to the ship before having suffered ill, struck to death by my hands.
Ah! ah! ah! without an helping hand may you perish in the billowy deep, at the sandy Sarpedonian promontory, wandering in the wide air!
Exclaim, and rend your robes, and invoke the gods; for you shall not escape the Egyptian bark: exclaim and cry, with more bitter grievings, obtaining the name of calamity.
Oh! oh! oh!† the pollution of seizing barks: approaching, thou dost terribly insult: †who askest, may great Nile turn you away treating us with indelible insolence.

Nay, tell not me; but to the ſhip, the ſhip,
Averſe or not averſe, quick ſhalt thou go;
945
Or vengeance, chaſt'ning vengeance to thy feet
Add wings, and up the bark's tall ſides purſue thee,
Ah woe, woe, woe! Barbarian, may the winds
In all their fury hurl thee on the rocks
Of rough Cilicia's brow; or daſh thy corſe
950
An outcast on the ſwelling ſands beneath.
Cry, ſhriek, invoke the Gods; yet ſhalt thou not
Eſcape the ſhip of Ægypt; louder ſhriek,
Cry woe, and woe: if the name pleaſe thee,
take it.

Ah wretched me! Pollution of the land,
How fierce he yells! Inſolent wretch, away,
Thy rude touch wounds me: For this ruffian force,
Rife, mighty Nile, whelm him beneath thy floods!

Alle tue lunghe bende,

Ahi ahi, ahi ahi!
Senza soccorso soccomber dovrai

Del Sarpedonio tumulo
sopra il sabbioso cumulo
ti sbalzerà dei venti la tempesta!
I Numi implora, alza lamenti e guai,
930
Ahi ahi, ahi ahi!

Shrines, shrines, forsooth!—the ship, the ship be shrine!
Aboard, perforce and will-ye nill-ye, go!
Or e'er from hands of mine
Ye suffer torments worse and blow on blow.
Alack, God grant those hands may strive in vain
910
With the salt-streaming wave,
When 'gainst the wide-blown blasts thy bark shall strain
To round Sarpedon's cape, the sandbank's treach'rous grave.
Shrill ye and shriek unto what gods ye may,
Ye shall not leap from out Aegyptus' bark,
915
How bitterly soe'er ye wail your woe.
Alack, alack my wrong!
Stern is thy voice, thy vaunting loud and strong.
Thy sire, the mighty Nilus, drive thee hence,
Turning to death and doom thy greedy violence!

Du mußt ungesäumt in's Schiff, fort in's Schiff,
815
Ob gern, ob ungern!
Weh uns, weh uns!
Daß du verſänkest ohne Rettung
820
Erste Gegenstrophe.
Ach, ach, ach, ach!
Schmähe du, belle hier am Ufer,
Ha, blähe dich trokvoll!
Daß der Nilgott, o du Frechster,
Von der Frechheit dich zurück doch
830
Schreckte, mich mächtig schüste!

viertes Epeisodion: 1.
