DANAOS
Of all these gods the common shrine revere,
And in these holy precincts take your seats,
Like flock of doves scared by like-feathered hawks,
220
Our kin, yet foes, polluters of the race.
Can bird, devouring bird, be undefiled?
And how can he who weds unwilling bride,
From sire unwilling, be accounted pure?
Not e'en in realm of Hades, after death,
Shall one so reckless fail to be arraigned.
For there, among the shades, another Zeus,
'Tis said, offence by final verdict dooms.
Look out, and on this place your station take,
So happy issue your emprize shall crown.
