Ha! faugh! faugh! what appears here? Is it some net of Hades? But its closed snare is the partner of a bed, the accomplice in the murder: and let the unglutted quire yell over the race, because of the murder that deserves stoning.

Ha! What is this, that I ſee here before me?
Is it the net of hell? Or rather her’s,

Who ſhares the bed, and plans the murderous deed.
Let diſcord, whoſe infatiable rage
Purſues this race, howl thro’ the royal rooms
Againſt the victim deſtin’d to deſtruction.

Ahi, terrore, ahi, terrore!
Che visione è questa ?
Forse d'Averno è un laccio?
La compagna del talamo è la rete,

contro questa progenie, innalzi un ululo:
ché pietre, poi, vendicheran lo scempio.

God! a new sight! a net, a snare of hell,
Set by her hand—herself a snare more fell!
A wedded wife, she slays her lord,

Helped by another hand!
Ye powers, whose hate
Of Atreus' home no blood can satiate,
Raise the wild cry above the sacrifice abhorred!
