erstes Epeisodion. Eteokles, welcher die im Volke durch die Angstrufe der Jungfrauen (des Chors) entstandene Entmuti- gung wahrgenommen hat (174f.), kommt zurück, weist die Jung- frauen zurecht und lehrt sie die rechte Weise des Gebetes. Die Szene dient der Charakteristik des Eteokles.

διὰ θεῶν statt des gewöhn- lichen διὰ θεούς, wenn es nicht ursprünglich nach der Vermutung von Meineke διὰ θεόν geheißen hat: Den Göttern verdanken wir es, daß unsere Stadt noch unbe- zwungen ist und daß die Mauer uns schirmt". Hermann will die Responsion mit διαὶ θεῶν her- stellen, aber wahrscheinlich ist der antistrophische Vers nicht in Ord- nung. αποστέγει: zu 202. un-
