πρὸς ταῖς δυσμαῖς τῶν φθινασμάτων τοῦ ἡλίου, fern im Westen, wo die Sonne ver- schwindet, vgl. 436. 543. Prom. 6: ἀδαμαντίνων δεσμῶν ἐν ἀρρήκτοις πέδαις. Die bauschichte Ausdrucks- weise malt zugleich die groſse Ent- fernung und erinnert dadurch den Hörer, dafs er sich den Schauplatz der Handlung weit im Osten zu denken habe. ἀλλὰ μήν (226) halb Einwendung gegen die An- gabe des Chors, halb Verwunde- rung darüber, daſs dennoch Xerxes u. s. w. Aber er hat es trotzdem gethan, weil Athen der Schlüssel zu ganz Hellas ist. γένοιτ᾽ ἄν, εἰ ᾿Αθήνας εἶλε. – ἔρξας... κακά steht als nähere Bestimmung zu τοιοῦτος (s. v. a. „um die Beschaffenheit des Heeres zu beurteilen, braucht man nur zu wissen, dafs es" u.s. w.). Vgl. Kr. 57, 10. A. 1 (letztes Bei- spiel). – Μήδους ungenau st. Πέρ- σας, 791 und sonst. Erinnerung an Marathon. ἄλλο, sc. πάρεστιν αὐτοῖς. Vgl. Herodot VII 9: Ἕλ- ληνας οὐ τιμωρησόμεθα; τί δείσαν- τες; κοίην πλήθεος συστροφήν· κοίὴν δὲ χρημάτων δύναμιν;
