But this favouring strain neglects not Venus: for she has a power over Jove together with Juno: and the nearest to the many-counselled goddess is honoured for her mighty works. But loved companions are present with mother [Venus], and no passion is disobedient to soothing persuasion. But to Harmonia is given a portion of deceiving Venus and the ways of loves.

Nor, Queen of Love, ſhall our mellifluous lays
Be ſilent in thy praiſe:
For thou, next Heav'n's imperial queen,
In highest grace with Jove art ſeen,
And mighty deeds declare thy pow'r:
1125
The paſſions hear thy ſoft controul;
Thy ſweet voice melts the willing ſoul,
Enchanted with thy honied lore.
Round thee, where'er thou lead'ſt the way,
Joyful the frolic Cupids rove;
1130
And as their antic ſports they play,
Whiſper the harmony of love.

Yet not in scorn we chant, but in honour of Aphrodite;
She truly and Hera alone have power with Zeus and control.
Holy the deeds of her rite, her craft is secret and mighty,
And high is her honour on earth, and subtle her sway of the soul.

viertes Epeisodion: 1.

113, vgl. Π 419 1.), hat Aschylos in den Κάρες behandelt. 675). Das Epitheton πολύψαμμον (für πολυψάμαθον Emperius) deutet auf Sandbänke. ἀερίαις ἐν (für εὐρείαις εἶν Hartung) αὔραις, in nebeliger Luft, zu 77.
