It concerns not thee to speak of this care: by our hands he fell, he met his fate, and we will inter him. not with wailings from his dwelling, *** but his daughter Iphigenia. as is proper, having met her father lovingly at the swift-flowing stream of woes, shall fling her arms around and kiss him.

This care concerns not thee: by us he fell,
By us he died; and we will bury him
With no domeſtic grief.
But Iphigenia,
1730
His daughter, as is meet, jocund and blythe
Shall meet him on the banks of that sad ſtream,
The flood of ſorrow, and with filial duty
Hang fondling on her father’s neck, and kiſs him.

einz'ge tausend, abertausend Leben
am Skamandros in den Tod gesandt.
Und du, zum ew'gen Gedächtnis
trägst du das Zeichen der Weihe

Wohl hatte Hader im Hause
gesegnet den Ehebund,
dem Gatten des Elends Grund.

Peace! for such task is none of thine.
By me he fell, by me he died,
And now his burial rites be mine!
Yet from these halls no mourners' train
1815
Shall celebrate his obsequies;
Only by Acheron's rolling tide
His child shall spring unto his side,
And in a daughter's loving wise
Shall clasp and kiss him once again!

1505
Wie der Tochter geziemt,
Tritt gegen ihn her an des klagenden Stroms
Wildrauschender Furth,
Und umschlingt ihn mit liebenden Armen.
