Notes on the current edition

Supplices

1. * Among the various emendations which have been proposed of this corrupt passage that of Mr. Newman,
for
, appears to me to give the best sense.
2. † The laws of Draco, called
, are alluded to, among which this triple precept occurred, borrowed, as was said, from Triptolemus:
.—Paley. In the text the triad of commandments seems completed by, Honour the national gods, and honour the national magistrates.

erstes Epeisodion. 1.

κότον: τὸν τοῦ Διός bemerkt der Schol. mit Recht (vgl. 390, 487), aber diese nähere Bestimmung kann nach ἀνέρων nicht entbehrt werden; deshalb wird die Emendation Heimsäths θεῶν τ' ἄλευαι κότον richtig sein. Vgl. Hesych.

Uber die Konjunktivform τλας (die Handschrift gibt τ' ἀαΐς, d.i. ΤΛΑΙΣ) vgl. H. L. Ahrens Dor. Dial. S. 313. Sie entspricht der Form τιμᾶς. 4361. βίᾳ δίκης, wider Recht, wie Soph. Ant. 59 νόμου βίᾳ. Ge- nauere Responsion würde erzielt, wenn man für δίκας ἀγομέναν schriebe διασοβουμέναν.
