Take heart, dear child! still mighty in the sky
Is Zeus who ruleth all things and surveys.
Commit to him thy grief that surgeth high,
And walk in safer ways,
Let not hate vex thee sore,
Nor yet ignore
The cause of hate and sorrow in thy breast.
Time bringeth rest:
90
All is made easy through his power divine.
90
The heir of Agamemnon’s line
90
Who dwells by Crisa’s pastoral strand
Shall yet return unto his native land;
And he shall yet regard his own
Who reigns beneath upon his Stygian throne.

Drum will ich offenbaren, was ich ausgedacht;
Doch du vergönne meinem Wort ein scharfes Ohr,
30
Gebot mir Phöbos also, wie du gleich vernimmst:
35
Also sei der Rede Sinn.

Electra
Folly indeed, and madness ! But my griefs
Will force their way, and whilst Electra breathes
She must lament ; for who will bring me comfort,
Or soothe my sorrows ? Let me — let me go,
And weep for ever. ^

Chorus
154
Yet not by thee alone of all that breathe
Is sorrow felt. What share is thine, beyond
Those in this house by blood to thee allied?
Such is the life Chrysothemis endures;
Such Iphianassa's sufferings; such the Youth's,
Who in concealment and in silence mourns.
