But advanced in age, he displayed the disposition of his parents; for by way of making a return for his nurture, an unbidden guest he hath prepared a banquet by crunching 2 slaughters of sheep, and the house hath been dabbled in gore; a sorrow not to be resisted by the domestics, a mighty widely slaying pest; and by the will of God some minister of Atè hath been fostered in his house.

Till, conſcious of his firmer age,
His lion-race the lordly ſavage ſhows;
No more his youth-protecting cottage knows,
But with infatiate rage
825
Flies on the flocks, a baleful gueſt,
And riots in th’ unbidden feaſt:

sui famigliari, e danno
e rovina e sterminio :
tal ministro funereo

entro la casa, avverso un Dio mandò.

das gleiche denken. Also steht es.

But waxing time and growth betrays
The blood-thirst of the lion-race,
850
And for the house's fostering care,
Unbidden all it revels there,
And bloody recompense repays—
Rent flesh of kine, its talons tare:
A mighty beast, that slays, and slays,
855
And mars with blood the household fair,
A God-sent pest invincible,
A minister of fate and hell.

Erstarkt endlich, enthüllt er
Den Erbsinn seines Geschlechtes.
Denn die Pflege vergeltend,
700
Schafft er ein Mahl ungeheißen
Sich von gemordeten Lämmern,
Röthet mit Blut die Gemächer.
Alle seh'n in tiefem Schmerz,
Wie der Mörder rast und würgt.
705
Also nährte dem Haus ein Gott
Einen Priester des Unheils.
Dritte Strophe.

zweites Stasimon.
