SEMI-CHORUS II
Stayed is their hate, and on the gory plain
Commingled is their life;
Too truly of one blood these foemen now.
Stern umpire of their strife,
The fire-born stranger from beyond the main,
The whetted steel. Hostile was Ares too,
Bitter apportioner of wealth, I trow,
Making the curse paternal all too true.

Woe and alack for the sound, for the rattle of cars to the wall,

Diese Totenklage (854 f.) wird von Halbchören gesungen, welche in gleicher Weise abwechseln wie in Eum. 143-168, im ersten Strophenpaar zweimal, in den bei- den folgenden nur einmal. Auch die Unterbrechung des ersten Satzes durch den anderen Halbchor findet sich in den Eum. ebenso. 872 Η. δι' εὐωνύμων ὁμοσπλάγχνων τε (vgl. Pers. 569 Θρήκης ἂμ πε- διήρεις δυσχίμους τε κελεύθους) πλευρωμάτων τετυμμένοι, „,ins Herz, ins Bruderherz getroffen", Das schmerzliche Wort τετυμμένοι be- stätigt ( δῆτα: zu 864) der andere Halbchor. In der Lücke ist das verb. fin. verloren gegangen (etwa ἐπέσετε μέλεοι).
