Persians

1. Eschyle a énuméré d'abord les îles qui sont le plus rapprochées de l'Asie-Mineure (qu'il représente comme un gigantesque promontoire : cf. 881). Il remonte maintenant au nord pour énumérer les îles qui sont à mi-chemin entre l'Europe et l'Asie. Il passera ensuite aux villes ioniennes de la côte d'Asie (897).

Seine Verdienste werden vor dem Auf- treten des Xerxes noch einmal ver- gegenwärtigt, des Kontrastes wegen. Zugleich erhalten so seine Rat- schläge (790 ff. 824 ff.) doppeltes Gewicht. Altertümlicher Charakter, epische Aufzählung, auch viele epi- sche Formen und Wendungen, so- wie das Maſs überwiegend dakty- lisch und altertümlich einfach, in der Weise des Stesichoros. Vgl. III 86 B Αἰσχύλος δ᾽ ἐν Πέρσαις τὰς ἀνα- ρίτας (Meerschnecken) τρεφούσας νήσους νηριτοτρόφους εἴρηκεν. – μετάκτους ( νήσους), die man vom Festlande aus gleich hinter der Küste (in der Nähe der Küste) sieht, also s. v. a. ἀγχιάλους. Vgl. μέταυ- λος, die hinter der αὐλή gelegene Thüre. Herod. V 26: Ὀτάνης .. εἶλε Λῆμνόν τε καὶ Ἴμβρον, ἀμφο- τέρας ἔτι τότε ὑπὸ Πελασγῶν οἰκεο- μένας. Von Lemnos nach Ikaros (später Ikaria) ist ein groſser Sprung nach Süden. Ικάρου ἕδος wie Hom. Ω 544 Λέσβος ἄνω, Μάκαρος ἕδος. Κνίδον, Herod. I 174. Κυπρ. Herod. ΙΙΙ 19: δόντες Κύ- πριοι σφέας αὐτοὺς Πέρσησι (unter Kambyses), vgl. ib. 91. V 104.108 ff. Das dortige Salamis galt für eine Gründung des Salaminiers Teukros (Enkels des Aiakos).
