Nach Tilgung des unechten Verses (s. Anhang) setzt Dareios stillschweigend als bekannt voraus, daſs einer dieser ἄνδρες φίλοι er selbst gewesen sei. κἀπεστράτευσα πολλά, nach vielen Richtungen; jetzt im einzelnen be- kannt durch die groſse Inschrift von Behistan; s. Spiegel, Keilinschr. S. 9ff. nebst Erân S. 326: ,,Dareios mufste sich das Reich, das er be- herrschen sollte, erst wieder erobern. Auch nachdem diese Eroberung schon gelungen ist, tauchen immer wieder neue Versuche auf. Jede Provinz macht ihre Empörung für sich ab, ohne sich mit der andern zu verbinden, wodurch es dem Da- reios möglich wurde die Aufstände nach und nach zu unterdrücken. Die gefährlichsten waren die des Naditabira in Babylon und die des Fravartis in Medien; gegen beide zieht auch Dareios persönlich zu Felde."
