I behold a youthful band 3 shaded with new-cropped boughs [at the altars] of these gods who preside over the games. But may this business of the guests of our city be unattended with hurt nor let strife arise to the city from unexpected and sudden things, for these the city wants not.

May their arrival, tho' now ſtrangers here,
Yet hence deſcended, bring no dread event;
Nor from this ſudden, unexpected hap
Let war, which least we wish, disturb our ſtate.

Bring war on us: for strife we covet not.
