250
275
In meiner Qual erquickte: ringsum späht' ich nach;
Doch nichts entdeckt' ich überall, als Sammer nur;

1081cont2
These woes, ill-fated man, these woes by choice
1095
Hast thou drawn on thee; by no other hand,
No foreign force art thou involved in ills.
1101cont2
A better fortune in thy reach was placed,
Hadst thou been wise: thou hast preferred the worse.

268. mvp-comment-189-1 ξὺν ᾗ] Sc. The relative points to the prior antecedent, the words τῆς . . χαράγματι being epexegetic.

ᾤχοντ] 'Cast forth and departed.' Cp. The word implies the helplessness of his condition. 'Thus afflicted was I when they cast me forth here companionless and left me.'
