Ab Urbe Condita With An English Translation, books 1-10, 21-45, with periochae 11-20

1. As a privates, Postumius had no right to demand or expect any sign of honour from an allied city. The incident may be regarded as an indication of the growing feeling of superiority of Rome with respect to her allies. Cf. sect. 12 below.
2. But Livy has previously mentioned such expenditures as customary for allies outside of Italy, XXXII. xxvii. 4.
