1. 7. ‘burning ’ Some render ‘hot ’; others, ‘mirage.’ Only here and xlix. 10.
2. 8. Or, ‘even fools....
3. 2. or, ‘ ’ as being a—apparently=chief butler, in Hebrew: but prob. representing Assyrian word for chief staff officer.
4. 3. ‘recorder’: or, ‘remembrancer,’ and so ver. 22,
5. 5. Many propose to read ‘Thou ’ altering a small letter to agree with the parallel passage in 2 Kings.
6. 7. Or, ‘and for that thou sayest to me....’
7. 11 ‘understand’: lit. ‘hear‘: so in LXX.
8. 15. ‘ safely deliver’ : verb repeated in Heb.
9. 16. ‘ agreement,’ lit. ‘ blessing’: freq. used in sense of a present.
10. 20. Or, ‘ how much less shall the LORD... i” (Ver. 19 ὸ is of course ironical, as translated).
