Notes on the current edition

Scholia on Book 1 of Apollonius' Argonautica

1. 4 verba βασιλεύοντι Κάδμῳ ab interpolatore quodam male interposita censuit Heyne Ad Apoll. Bibl. Obs. 1803, 231, defendit Keil. Radtke Pherecydi abiudicans a vetere commentatore aliunde adiecta ea esse putat fortasse sola haec verba supersunt de sententia ad exemplum scholii N 302 ita fere restituenda: 〈μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα τὰς Θήβας ἀναιρεθῆναι Εὐρυμάχου〉 βασιλεύοντος 〈καὶ ἔρημον γενέσθαι τὴν πόλιν μέχρι τῆς〉 Κάδμου 〈ἀφίξεως〉.
2. 4 the words βασιλεύοντι Κάδμῳ were judged by Heyne, Ad Apollodori Bibliothecam Observationes 1803, 231, to have been wrongly inserted by some interpolator; Keil defended them. Radtke, denying them to Pherecydes, thinks they were added from elsewhere by an old commentator; perhaps only these words remain of a sentence to be restored roughly as follows on the model of scholion N 302: 〈μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα τὰς Θήβας ἀναιρεθῆναι Εὐρυμάχου〉 βασιλεύοντος 〈καὶ ἔρημον γενέσθαι τὴν πόλιν μέχρι τῆς〉 Κάδμου 〈ἀφίξεως〉.
