Syrian Wars

1. This is an inexcusable blunder. Scipio Africanus the Younger was the son of Aelmilius Paulus and the adopted son of the son of Scipio Africanus the Elder, and was not born till five years after the events here mentioned.
2. ἐς δὲ τὰ πλευρὰ ἐκάστου μέρους ἐλέφαντες δύο καὶ ἐίκοσιν. This arrangement requires 220 elephants, an incredible number, whereas Livy says that there were two for each of the ten divisions. Evidently the words καὶ ἐίκοσιν should be rejected.
