[221] To Cronos¹ a human victim is sacrificed at Carthage, although this is regarded by most as an impious act. In Alexandria they offer a cat to Horus and a beetle to Thetis—a thing which no one here would do. To Poseidon they sacrifice a horse; but to Apollo (especially the Didymaean² Apollo) that animal is an abomination. It is an act of piety to offer goats to Artemis, but not to Asclepius.
