1. Amaseia.
2. This appears to mean that the two peaks ran up into two towers and not that they had towers built upon them.
3. i.e., isthmus-like ridge.
4. i.e., “Plain of the thousand villages.”
5. i.e., “salt-works.”
6. Literally, salt obtained by digging or mining. On the salt-mines of northern India, see 5. 2. 6 and 15. 1. 30.
7. Roman province, of course.
