How many has thy guilt, thy guilt alone,
Stretch’d in the duſt? But now by murd'rous hands

Haſt thou fluic’d out this rich and noble blood,
Whoſe foul ſtains never can be purg’d.
This ruin
Hath discord, raging in the house, effected.

1460
vollkommen ist, doch spät erschienen der Triumph.

O Helen, O infatuate soul,
1695
Who bad'st the tides of battle roll,
O'erwhelming thousands, life on life,
'Neath Ilion's wall!
And now lies dead the lord of all.
The blossom of thy storied sin
1700
Bears blood's inexpiable stain,
O thou that erst, these halls within,
Wert unto all a rock of strife,
A husband's bane!

Weh, Helena, dir! Wahnsinnige, weh!
Du Eine, du hast so viel, so viel

i. e. profecto multum recordandum tibi adspersisti inexpiabilem sanguinem.
