[54] ὁ δὲ μηδενὶ
τούτων ἀντιλέγων, ἅπασι δὲ ἑξῆς συνεπινεύων ἑαυτὸν λέληθεν ἀπατῶν καὶ ἐπιτειχίζων ψυχῇ βαρεῖς γείτονας, οἷς ἄμεινον ὑπηκόοις ἢ ἄρχουσι χρῆσθαι· ἡγεμονεύοντες μὲν γὰρ πολλὰ πημανοῦσι καὶ μεγάλα βασιλευούσης παρ’ αὐτοῖς ἀνοίας, ὑπακούοντες δὲ τὰ δέονθ’ ὑπηρετήσουσι ¹ πειθηνίως οὐκέθ’ ὁμοίως ἀπαυχενίζοντες.

[54] but he who contradicts none of these things, but who assents to every one of them in succession, without being aware of it, is deceiving himself, and building up troublesome neighbours for his soul, which he had better have as subjects than as rulers; for as rulers they will do him manifold and great injury, since folly reigns among them; but as subjects they will serve him obediently in suitable matters, and will not at all raise their heads in arrogance, as they will if they are rulers.
