Wohlauf, wer stellt sich voran? Wer folgt
Erste Gegenstrophe.
Lalalah! Ich bin von Wein voll,

Und genoß des schönsten Mahles,
Bin befrachtet, gleich dem Lastschiff,
Bis hinauf zum Bauchverdecke.
Mich verlockt der Wiese Prangen
In des Lenzes Grün zum Schmause,
505
Zu der Sippschaft der Kyklopen.
O so gib, Fremdling, den Schlauch her, schenke mir ein!
Zweite Gegenstrophe.
Aus der Liebesgrotte naht er
Mit verzücktem Liebesblicke;
O, mich liebt ein schöner Jüngling! 1

Notes on the current edition

Cyclops

1. Herwerden’s ἥδει seems preferable to ἥβῃ which is probably corrupt.
2. Hermann supplies the lacuna before φιλεῖ with φίλος ὣν, but there is so much corruption in this and the following few lines that little reliance can be placed on any emendation, nor is the sense very clear.
