Notes on the current edition

Metamorphoses

1.
2. MSS collapsam. The alteration is due to Bluemner, but other suggestions, such as Lipsius' collatam or Helm's allapsam, may as well be right.
3.
4. The MSS seem to give gluvies or ingluvies. The suggestion of cluvies is due to Beroaldus.
5.
6. I do not feel absolutely certain that grammar requires the subject of cupere to be expressed; but I adopt Rossbach's suggestion of the insertion of illum, which is quite likely to have dropped out owing to its resemblance to the last part of the preceding word.
7.
8. The goddesses did know what had been going on, so that it is necessary, as Beroaldus saw, either to insert non before ignarae, or to read gnarae. ti
