2. 1. ‘earth’: or, ‘land,’ according to many, and so throughout the chapter, to ver. 17. 3, 4. Heb. verbs repeated, for emphasis.
3. 5. Or, ‘changed the ’
4. 6. Or, ‘parched,’ ‘ scorched, and
5. 7. Or, ‘The grapes of the vintage mourn.
6. 10. Lit. ‘shut up from entering.
7. 11. ‘streets’: or, ‘fields’ (open places): ‘for,’ or, ‘because of ’ ‘gone,’ strictly, ‘into captivity.’
8. 13. Or, ‘When thus it shall be.’
9. 15. ‘the lights,’ perhaps meaning ‘the East.’ Some would changing a letter: cf. LXX.
