(BCD) Αἰγαῖον πέλαγος: Αἰγαί, τῆς Εὐβοίας νῆσος δυσχείμερος, ἀφ᾽ ἧς καὶ τὸ πέλαγος Αἰγαῖον ἐκλήθη. οἱ δέ, ὅτι ἀπὸ Ποσειδῶνος ὠνομάσθη· οὕτω γὰρ λέγεται ὁ θεός (οἱ δὲ ἀπὸ Π. ὀνομασθῆναί 〈φασιν· Αἰγαῖος〉 γὰρ οὗτος λ. ὁ θ. Reitz.). οἱ δὲ ἀπὸ Αἰγέως τοῦ πατρὸς θησέως κατακρημνίσαντος ἑαυτόν ἀπὸ τῆς ἀκροπόλεως εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν. οὐκ εὖ add Gaisford): πολὺ γὰρ ἀπέχει ἡ ἀκρόπολις τῆς θαλάσσης παραπλέοντι (Reitz., περιπλ- codd.)
