[3] On this occasion the oracles from Dodona declared that it was the wrath of Dionysus that caused the plague, which would not cease until Koresos sacrificed to Dionysus either Kallirhoe herself or one who had the courage to die in her stead. When the girl could find no means of escape, she next appealed to her foster parents. These too failing her, there was no other way except for her to be put to the sword.
