[9] Such, it would seem, are the vicissitudes of human affairs, if in fact the superhuman force [
daimōn] granted that the Messenians should in their turn preserve the Arcadians, and what is still more surprising, that they should capture Sparta. For they fought against Kleomenes at Sellasia and joined with Aratos and the Achaeans to capture Sparta.
