[1] But as for what pertains to Attalos and Ptolemy, it is more ancient in point of time, so that the story [
phēmē] no longer remains, and those who attended these kings for the writing-up [
sun=graphē] of their deeds fell into neglect even before [= before the story failed]. So, it occurred to me to highlight [
