Notes on the current edition

Geography

1. The Greek word is a compound of “nau(s)” (“ship”) and “pagia” (“construction”), “pagia” being the Doric spelling.
2. In Greek (Doric spelling), “pagae.”
3. i.e., “starting-place.”
4. 9. 4. 15.
5. No other reference to a “Pyliac” Assembly in Iolcus has been found. It could hardly be identified with the “Pylaean (Amphictyonic) Assembly” (9. 3. 7). Groskurd emends “Pyliac” to “Peliac” (i.e., held in honor of Pelias), which is probably right.
