Notes on the current edition

Geography

1. Now the Nebrodici.
2. 5. 4. 9.
3. Strabo refers to what is now the Lago di Naftia, a small volcanic lake near the Eryces River and Leotini, and not far from the sea.
4. The form “Mataurus” seems to be corrupt. At any rate, it probably should be identified with Mazara (now Mazzara), near which there is now a small river flowing through a rocky district.
5. Cp. 16. 2. 7.
6. So Pliny N.H. 6.31
7. Strabo refers to the lake of Stymphalus in Arcadia in the Peloponnesus . For a full description see Frazer’s note on Paus. 8.22.1
8. 5. 1. 8.
