Enquiry into Plants

1. ¹ ἀνθόφορα καὶ ἀνανθῆ conj. Sch. from G ; καρποφόρα ἄνθη P2AId. 2 cf. 1. 9. 5; Plin. 16. 81.
2. ³ τοιαῦτα conj. W,: διαιρετέον conj Sch.; τοῖς αὐτοῖς αἱρετέον Ald. The sense seems to be : Though these 'secondary’ distinctions are not entirely satisfactory, yet (if we look to the causes of different characters), they are indispensable. since they are due to causes which affect all the four classes of our 'primary’ distinction.
3. ⁴ i.e, we must take the extreme cases.
4. 5 i.e. plants which entirely refuse cultivation.
5. ¹ κατ᾿ αὐτὰς τὰς conj. Sch. ; καὶ τά τ᾿ αὐτὰς τὰς U; κατὸ ταύτας τὰς MV Ald.
6. ² πάντων . . . τόπους, text perhaps defective.
