5. 5 i.e. shedding of the ‘bark’ of the roots λοπᾶν conj Sch., cf. C.P. 5. 9. 9; λοτάδα Ald.H., cf. 4. 14. 3; but the word here points to a different disease.
6. 6 ὑπτία τομή seems to be a technical term for pruning in such a way that the growth of the new wood is encouraged
