Par exemple, ce qu'Homere dit d'Hector, pourſuivi par Achille, ſeroit ridicule ſur le Theatre; car on ne pourroit s'empêcher de rire, de voir d'un côté les Grecs debout ſans faire aucun mouvement, & A-chille de l'autre, qui pourſuit Hector, & qui fait ſigne aux Troupes. The circumstances, for example, of the pursuit of Hector by Achilles, are such, as, upon the stage, would appear ridiculous;-the Grecian army standing still, and taking no part in the pursuit, and Achilles making signs to them, by the motion of his head, not to interfere 1 . But in the Epic Poem this escapes our notice.
