The EPOPOEIA imitates by words alone, or by verse; and that verse may either be composed of various metres, or confined, according to the practice hitherto established, to a single species 1 .

τῷ γένει ἑτέροις Forchhammer's correction τῷ ἐν ἑτέροις is supposed to be confirmed by 22 and b 29. The sense, however, is just as well expressed by the simple dative. As the means under consideration— λόγος, ἁρμονία, and ῥυθμός—differ in kind, they are rightly described as γένει ἕτερα. Aristotle often omits the article in such formulas: Top. 1. 7, 103 a 13
; H. A. 2. 1, 497 b 9 ; Metaph. I 10, 1059 a 14
.

1447a18 ἢ τῷ ἕτερα ἢ τῷ ἑτέρως The distinction is already in Plato, Rep. 398 b
.

καὶ μὴ τὸν αὐτὸν τρόπον Other instances of parallelismus antitheticus will be found in 3, 1448 a 22; 6, 1449 b 26; 15, 1454 a 30; 24, 1460 a 16.

Ritter, cap. 1 § 3
