1. The affinity of like to like was an axiom in early Greek thought; Cf. Lysis215 C ff., Sympos. 186 A ff.
2. The elements are conceived as having their proper abodes in concentric strata of space, one above another—earth in the center, water next, then air, and fire at the circumference of the World-Sphere.
