On the murder of Herodes

1. If the manuscript reading is retained, this sentence will be the supposed answer of the prosecution to the question just put by the defence; but the introductory καὶ μὴν argues against such an interpretation. In view of the frequent mis-copying of perfectly common words elsewhere in the manuscripts, it is less likely that γε ἀγνοεῖν arose through ignorance from the rarity γεγωνεῖν, than that it replaced γε ἀκούειν through carelessness.
