On the Crown

1. ὑπωμοσία, in general an affidavit to arrest proceedings; here the oath taken in the Assembly by the party engaging to prosecute the author of a law or a decree for violation of the constitution. Its effect was to keep the law in abeyance, at whatever stage it had arrived, until the suit was decided.
