So wirst du denn, auf diesen Doppelstab gestüzt,
845
So troze! Wohl erkennst du's einst in später Zeit,
Daß dir so wenig fromme, was du heute thust,

842. mvp-comment-459-1 πόλις ἐναίρεται My city suffers violence. The chorus in their indignation, as Theseus afterwards in his scorn (903, ξένῳ .. τῷδε χειρωθεὶς βίᾳ) represent the attempt of Creon as an assault on the liberties of their city.

842. mvp-comment-459-2 σθένει By main force. The expression here is more nearly equivalent to κατὰ κράτος than to Bíᾳ. Cp. Eur. Bacch. The adverbial dative following the parenthesis is rather weak. Qy. Cp. Aesch. S. c. T. 247, στένει πόλισμα.
