Commentary

Commentary (R. C. Jebb) (OCR draft) (Commentary (R. C. Jebb))

mvp-comment-344-1 μήτ’ … θήσους’ 1

mvp-comment-344-2 ἀγωνάρχαι 2

mvp-comment-344-3 μήθ’ ὁ λυμεὼν ἐμός 3

mvp-comment-344-4 No correction is very probable. We cannot read

μήθ’ ὁ λυμεὼν ἐμοῦ
, since, though
μου
can represent the possessive pron., such a use of
ἐμοῦ
would be unexampled. (See Krüger, Gr. Sprachlehre, § 47. 9. 13.) The dat.
ἐμοί
is also untenable. It is possible that the poet wrote μήτε λυμεὼν ἐμός 4
