Thebä, wohnend am hellen Strom Ismenos,
Wo die Saat aussproß des wilden Drachen! 1
Erste Gegenstrophe.
Dich sieht von dem doppelten Felshaupt hell erblizend 2
Feuer, wo korykische Nymphen sich 3
1100
In Jubelreih'n ergeh'n,
Dich der Kastalia Quellborn;
Dich geleiten nysischer Berg' 4
Anhöh'n voll Epheu's;
Ihr grünes Ufer, traubenumkränzt, feiert,

Und gottvolle Gesänge schallen festlich,
Wenn du Thebä's Gassen fröhlich heimsuchst,
Zweite Strophe.
