Ἰσμήνιον πρὸς ὄχθον
.—The
κισσός
was to Dionysus what the
δάφνη
was to Apollo. The crowning with ivy (
κίσσωσις
) was a regular incident of his festivals: he was called
κισσεύς, κισσοκόμης, κισσοχαίτης
. Cp. Alciphron Epist. 2. 3 § 10
