Ah! Ah!
Lasset mich, lasset mich ruhen, den Leidenden!
Sa, ruh'n laßt mich zum leztenmal!
990
Wie rührst du mich an? Wo legst du mich hin?
Tod bringst du mir, Tod!
Das entschlafene Leiden erweckst du.
Wieder erfaßt es mich, ach! Schon kommt's! Von wannen in Hellas
Seid ihr Undankbarsten im Volk hellenischer Männer,

Die ich gerettet im Meer, und reinigend alle Gehölze,
Mich mühselig verzehrt? Und jezt will Keiner erbarmend
Nah'n mit Feuer und Lanze, die gräßliche Qual zu ver-

Nah'n, um das Haupt mir vom Rumpfe zu trennen, und

998. mvp-comment-718-1 foll. ἣν μήποτ᾽ ἐγὼ.. καταδερχθῆναι] Heracles, in his delirium, confuses the effect with the cause, ἣν .. ὅσσοις referring to the sacrificial robe (cp. infr. 1048-52). There would be something feeble in his merely wishing that he had not experienced this trouble. And ὄσσοις would then be inappropriate. Wunder supposes Κηναία κρηπίς to be the antecedent to ἥν; but this is of course inconsistent with our punctuation, and is forced in any case.
