Notes on the current edition

Symposiacs

1. Euripides, Frag. 975; Pindar, Olymp. I. 31; Il. XXIII. 503.
2. Hesiod, Theog. 16.
3. These verses are quoted by Tzetzes with three others as belonging to Hesiod’s Heroic Genealogy. If they are genuine, they contain the earliest reference to Hellen and his three sons. See Fragment XXXII. in Göttling’s Hesiod. (G.)
4. The fragments of Simonides may be found in Bergk, Poet. Lyr. Gr. pp. 879, 880 (Nos. 29, 30, 31). They are too mutilated to be translated (G.)
