Nimmer besteigt er hinsort das Gespann der henetischen
Rosse,
Auf weiter Rennbahn am See

Mit den růstigen Beltern sich tummelnd.
Bei der Gitarre verstummen die Musen,
Sonst immer wach, im Vaterhaus;
Und die Altäre der Tochter von Leto
Stehn unbekränzt in tiefem Laub.

Wetteifer um dein Lager.

Notes on the current edition

Hippolytus

1. Reading with Reiske, whom Nauck follows, γυμνάδος ἵππου. If the accus. plural is retained it would seem to mean, checking with his foot (i.e. pressed against the chariot-front) his steeds.
