Verschwinden von dergleichen Vögeln, und man sah weder sonstwo einen,
noch auch in der Nähe der Leichnam. Am deutlichsten war diese
Wirkung bei den Hunden wahrzunehmen, weil sie in Gesellschaft der
Menschen leben.

Das Unheimliche und Auffallende an dieser Krankheit
war, daß sie nicht nur die Menschen so grausam hinraffte,
sondern daß auch Vögel und andere Tiere, welche sonst Leichen
anfressen, die vielen unbeerdigt gebliebenen Toten überhaupt
nicht anrührten oder^D^starben, wenn sie davon fraßen, wie
sich das daran zeigte, daß solche Vögel gänzlich verschwunden
waren und sich bei den Leichen gar nicht mehr sehen ließen.
Am besten konnte man das an den Hunden beobachten, weil
sie in Gemeinschaft mit den Menschen leben.

Il est impossible de dépeindre les ravages de ce fléau; il sévissait avec une violence irrésistible. ἀποβαίνοντος —cf. c. 87, 3 ἀποβάντι, the imperf. being used here of the repeated result. In c. 11, 9 the plur was used, pres. partic. of the result as it will affect each man.
